About Chain of Lakes Church

Chain of Lakes Church is a welcoming, LGBTQIA+ affirming Presbyterian community in Blaine, MN. We are seeking a passionate Music Ministries Director to plan, organize, and lead our contemporary worship music program. This person will play a central role in creating an engaging, Spirit-filled worship experience that reflects our inclusive values and love for authentic Christian community.

POSITION OVERVIEW

Job Title: Music Ministries Director

Reports To: Pastor, Chain of Lakes Church

Location: Blaine, MN

Schedule: Flexible part-time (up to 20 hours per week) – onsite Sunday mornings with additional weekday hours for meetings, rehersals, planning, and volunteer support (onsite or remote).

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in music or equivalent experience; candidates actively pursuing a music degree will also be considered.

Salary: Competitive and negotiable. Range of $23-28 per hour.

Reviews: A 90-day introductory review; annual review thereafter.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Musical Leadership & Artistry

  • Lead worship for weekly Sunday services and special occasions (Ash Wednesday, Christmas Eve, etc.)
  • Select song lists that are theologically sound, musically engaging, and accessible to the congregation
  • Demonstrate high-level musical talent — vocals and/or primary instrument — to lead effectively
  • Collaborate with staff and volunteers to organize music for special events and support children’s music ministry (VBS, choirs, concerts)

Praise Band & Musician Development

  • Recruit, audition, and schedule volunteer musicians and vocalists
  • Lead weekly rehearsals and provide musical direction to members in advance
  • Mentor volunteers both musically and spiritually, fostering a healthy culture of community and belonging

Technical Oversight

  • Assist with Sunday morning production, including sound reinforcement and lyric projection
  • Provide basic troubleshooting of digital/analog soundboards and manage stage plots
  • Coordinate with the tech team to ensure lighting and visual media (ProPresenter or similar) align seamlessly with the music flow

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Contribute to Worship Ministry Team budget planning
  • Arrange for qualified substitutes when unable to attend Sunday worship
  • Manage worship planning software (Planning Center or similar)
  • Ensure all music licensing (CCLI) is current and properly reported

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Gifted musician with experience recruiting and developing volunteer music teams
  • Skilled in leading both the musical and technical aspects of worship
  • Familiarity with or openness to a Reformed or Presbyterian tradition
  • Commitment to the Purpose Statement, Core Values, and overall ministry of Chain of Lakes Church
